Each church has its own story. Our church’s story begins in 1992 when a team of Americans visited Slovenia for a week of evangelism. One woman on the team, Joy Gerry from Hawaii, left Slovenia with a burden to return again and bring Christ to the young people. Over the next few years she visited frequently with her family and teams of missionaries from Hawaii to plant and water the seeds of the gospel. It became clearer that God was preparing to begin a new church

In 1998 her son, Justin Gerry, moved to Europe to study at the Calvary Chapel Bible College in Austria. He also had a burden for Slovenia and for two years traveled weekly to the town of Celje to teach a Bible Study. During this time he sensed the call of God to pastor in Slovenia. In May of 2000, Justin and a team of missionaries from the Bible College moved to Celje. A small group of young people gave their lives to Jesus and began faithfully studying the Bible together to grow in their new relationship with the Lord. As the group of Slovenian believers grew, they applied for registration as a church in the Republic of Slovenia and were officially granted church status in July 2003 as Krščanska Cerkev Kalvarija , the first Calvary Chapel in Slovenia .
